Comics Counterpart

Theo Galavan may be original creation for the show, but his motivation and backstory are not: meet The Architect, Zachary Gate. Descendant of Gate family, one of the five families that built Gotham (others being Kanes, Waynes, Elliots and Cobblepots) but was vanquished from city's history. That happened because Bradley Gate went suicidal and literally dropped a bridge (that he was building with a custom scuba gear) on himself and his brother Nicholas killed the son of Kane family, Robert Kane, thinking that his father Cameron Kane was responsible, sabotaging the bridge (in fact, both Bradley and Nicholas were mad as a side effect of a scuba gear). Nicholas was put into Arkham, his surname was changed to Anders and remaining four families made their best to make Gates family forgotten. Zachary (driven mad by the same costume) tried to avenge families by manipulating Hush and Penguin (descendants of Elliots and Cobblepots respectively) and trying to eliminate everything that left of the families, exploding buildings made by his ancestors.

Basically, Theo is the version of Zachary with a few changes - he explodes Wayne buildings for somewhat other reasons, the costume is replaced by Order of St. Dumas (and symbolically represented by his monk's attire), and Cobblepot is no longer a descendant of Theodore Cobblepot (at least it wasn't reveled by now), but is still manipulated and nearly killed (and still - notice that Theo had Gertrud Kapelput and Harrison Kane killed and will clearly try to do so with Bruce Wayne and quite possibly Tommy Elliot). --Тостер (talk) 03:31, November 25, 2015 (UTC)

There are definite similarities but I think we should wait to see if anything comes of this before mentioning it article. So far, the Archetect hasn't been mentioned by the show's creative team or, well, anyone for that matter. Right now, this appears to just be a theory. However, that doesn't necessarily mean it's false. I think we should wait and see what happens. Considering the next episode of the series is the mid-season finale, a lot could happen. I agree that we need to wait, it's just a thing I wanted to share with the community as a huge DC fan, as no one seems to notice very strong similarities between the two storylines being distracted by Azrael elements of Order of St. Dumas. --Тостер (talk) 05:56, November 25, 2015 (UTC)
