Season 4 (also known as Dawn of Night[2]) is the fourth season of Gotham. It was renewed on May 11, 2017 and will air during the 2017-2018 TV season. It will premiere on September 21, 2017.[1]

Synopsis

Gotham’s origin story continues to unfold, and as the show enters its fourth season, the stakes will be higher than ever! With the Court of Owls decimated, the aftermath of the Tetch virus crippling the city, and every (surviving) villain in Gotham’s underworld jockeying for power, Jim Gordon and the GCPD will have their hands full. And that’s just the beginning! What threat does Ra's al Ghul pose, and will Penguin regain his title as the King of Gotham? What new villains are in store for season four, and what does Bruce Wayne’s season finale reveal mean for Gotham City — and his ultimate destiny?[3]

Gotham was renewed for a fourth season on May 11, 2017.[9]

It was announced that Gotham would air on Thursday this season instead of Monday to make room for a new show, "The Gifted".

On June 8, 2017, writer John Stephens confirmed the title of the season premiere on his Twitter page.[10]

Confirmed Plot points

  • The season will further explore the origin of Jonathan Crane/The Scarecrow.[12]
  • Jerome Valeska's story arc and the mythology of the Joker will continue to be explored, which will also include the appearance of Harley Quinn following her introduction in the season 3 finale.
    • Despite reports it appears that Harley Quinn did not appear in the season 3 finale. However, it may well transpire that she did, though in an ambiguous way that is to be further explored this season.
  • Clayface's origins will also be further explored this season.
  • Bruce Wayne will begin his training.
  • Penguin will officially open The Iceberg Lounge as method of furthering his criminal empire.
  • Professor Pyg will be introduced in this season.[13]
