"My mother made goulash. Brought the recipe from Budapest. Handed down through her family for 300 years."
Oswald Cobblepot to Sofia Falcone[src]

Gertrud Kapelput's goulash is an old family recipe from Hungary that Gertrud Kapelput used to make.

History

The recipe was passed down through the Kapelput family for 300 years and brought to Gotham City by Gertrud Kapelput when she moved away from Budapest. She used to cook the goulash to her son Oswald Cobblepot.[1]

When he was used as a servant by the Van Dahls, Oswald prepared his mother's recipe for goulash to them. Grace despised the meal he had made and told him that for Sunday dinner she wanted a roast and not his "slut mother's" goulash. As Oswald cleaned the dinner table on her orders, Sasha and Charles threw the food at him for their enjoyment.[2]

When she planned to gain Oswald Cobblepot's trust, Sofia Falcone visited Janos Szabo's restaurant and told him how to make goulash just like Cobblepot's mother Gertrud Kapelput would make. As Sofia and Cobblepot dined at the restaurant, Cobblepot figured out the taste of the goulash that his mother used to make and left thinking that Sofia was trying to get this close to him.[3]
